Porter

Descended from traditional brown beers and a precursor to stout, a porter is a dark beer named for the hardworking street and river porters of London who revived themselves with these rich, roasty ales. After losing popularity in the mid-twentieth century, the porter revival began in the late seventies and since then porters have been produced at home and abroad with great success and enthusiasm.
